The Ras Al Khaimah Police announced on Saturday that the 10-day extension of the traffic fine discount scheme ended on October 10. Motorists could avail 50 per cent discount on traffic fines accumulated in 2019 and before.
The discount scheme, which started on September 1, was to end on October 1.
However, the RAK Police had announced the 10-day extension to the scheme, which included cancellation of vehicle impoundments, but excludes traffic fines for offences related to dangerous driving.

"The move will hopefully encourage drivers to observe traffic rules and regulations, settle their accumulated fines, and reduce their financial burdens," police sources said.
Drivers needed to make the payment online via the smart apps of the Ministry of Interior to avail of the discount, they added.
"They also need to visit the nearest service centre in the country to add the due black traffic points on their driving licences so that they can then make electronic payment."
However, traffic fines accumulated because of dangerous driving offences are excluded from this discount. These mainly include driving a vehicle in a way that poses a grave risk to road users' safety, driving a heavy truck in a hazardous way, or a noisy vehicle, and escaping from a traffic police, the sources pointed out.
