In Ajman, a local programme led by coach Abdulla Al Sayed has focused on sustaining activity throughout Ramadan’s demanding schedule.
Al Sayed, who founded the “20-Day Ramadan Challenge,” noted a common pattern — many participants start the month motivated to exercise, but attendance often declines in the later weeks. “During the first half of Ramadan, people are highly motivated, but as schedules shift and preparations for Eid intensify, attendance declines,” he said. The programme aims to maintain consistency and support routines throughout the month.

The initiative caters to a wide range of participants, from children to seniors, with sessions held in the late afternoon to fit pre-iftar schedules. Groups are organised by fitness level and age, ensuring activities are appropriate for beginners, intermediate participants, advanced participants, and older adults. Guidance on exercise techniques and gradual progression is provided to minimise injury and encourage sustainable habits.
Even in the final ten days of Ramadan, when family gatherings and Eid preparations are common, attendance remains steady. Sessions provide structured activity that accommodates fasting schedules and daily routines, helping participants maintain physical activity despite other distractions.
Motivation is fostered through education and community support rather than prizes or competition. Participants track their own progress, celebrate personal improvements in strength or stamina, and focus on gradual, consistent development. “It becomes about personal goals and consistency, not just winning,” Al Sayed explained. The programme encourages individuals to apply what they learn at home, integrating healthy practices into everyday life.
The community aspect also plays a significant role. Participants support one another, creating accountability and a sense of camaraderie that helps sustain engagement throughout Ramadan. This shared environment reinforces habits and encourages participants to continue physical activity even outside structured sessions.
