Seeking fatwa during Ramadan? UAE authority reveals methods for consultation

Have you ever found yourself mid-sip of water just as the Fajr adhan starts, wondering if your fast during Ramadan is still valid? Or perhaps you've worried about how to properly catch up after arriving late to Taraweeh?

In Ramadan, the faithful's daily routines change dramatically and with that change, many questions arise, leaving many of them searching for answers and seeking religious consultations to make sure they observe the holy month in the most perfect way.

To meet those needs, the UAE Council for Fatwa has recently sepecified timings during Ramadan when Muslims can apply for fatwas, stressing that the service is available all week long.

From Saturday to Thursday, UAE residetns can post their Shariah and fatwa-related inquiries from 9am to 6pm, while on Fridays, there are two daily sessions; one from 9m to 12pm and the other from 3pm to 6pm.

The UAE Council of Fatwa also clarified that all consultations are given in accordance with a rigorous scholarly methodology and a balanced, moderate juristic approach.

How to seek fatwa?

There are four methods to ask the council for religious consulations during the holy month, and they are as follows:

  • Official website service: fatwauae.gov.ae

  • WhatsApp fatwas on 8002422

  • Fatwa service by phone on 8002422

Inquiries on Zakat

For inquiries on Zakat, residents can also call the General Authority of Islamic Affairs & Endowments & Zakat's call centre on 8008222 between 2pm and 8pm from Monday to Thursday. The service is also available on Fridays from 8am to 11am.

Zakat is a mandatory charitable contribution of 2.5 per cent of a Muslim's qualifying annual wealth and savings that have been held for a full lunar year. It applies to savings, gold, silver, investment income, and business assets.

In February, the UAE has officially launched the National Zakat Platform, a landmark initiative to regulate the collection and distribution of zakat, enhance transparency, and ensure funds reach eligible beneficiaries through an institutional, data-driven system.
