The crescent of Rajab 1447 AH has been sighted today, in Abu Dhabi by the Khattam Astronomical Observatory affiliated with the International Astronomy Centre.

The stunning crescent was seen on December 20, 2025 at 4.30pm UAE time. The moon was at 6.7 degrees from the sun.

What it means for Ramadan

The sighting of the Rajab crescent marks the beginning of Rajab, the seventh month of the Hijri calendar and one of the four sacred months in Islam.

This sighting holds significance because it starts the three-month spiritual journey leading to Ramadan, Islam's holiest month of fasting and devotion.

The timeline from Rajab to Ramadan goes through lunar observations. After Rajab concludes, Shaban begins with its own moon sighting, followed by Ramadan, which starts only when the Ramadan crescent is sighted.

This typically occurs about two lunar months after Rajab begins, though the exact timing depends on actual moon sightings.
