Private entities are forbidden to conduct any survey without obtaining authorisation from the Dubai Statistics Centre (DSC), according to a new decree. His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued law number 28 of 2015, which states that the DSC will be the only official reference for statistics on Dubai.
According to the decree, even public entities may not conduct field surveys without prior permission from the centre.
The DSC is responsible for collecting, classifying and analysing statistical information and data, and publishing statistical reports. The centre is responsible for organising and regulating activities related to statistics and surveys in the emirate.
The DSC will participate in the economic and social development in Dubai, establish advanced and efficient statistics systems and provide support to decision-makers, strategists and planners. The centre is also responsible for organising the sector and promoting transparency in reports.
