Police dissuade man from committing suicide

Residents of Ras Al Khaimah city tipped off the police in the early hours of Friday about the worker in his late twenties who attempted to end his life. The police team rushed to the scene and found the worker holding a knife in his hand, threatening to kill himself.

The police managed to remove the knife from his hand. He, however, sustained minor injuries on his neck and other parts of his body while trying to kill himself. The police detained the man after he was treated. He will later be referred to the Public Prosecution.

The man, who was also found to be an alcoholic, confessed that he had family problems back home which forced him to think of ending his life.

In a separate incident earlier this week, two Asian fishermen were hospitalised after inhaling huge amounts of carbon monoxide from a generator at their house in the Al Ma'aridh area of RAK.

A senior officer from the RAK police said that the victims, who were admitted at a government hospital in RAK while in critical condition, had placed a diesel generator inside their wooden house to provide them with power.

The victims were ignorant of the negative effects of placing a generator inside the house where they slept. The house reportedly had no ventilation. While one of the victims has been discharged, the condition of the second victim has not improved.
