More than nine fire engines and a huge rescue team put out a massive blaze that gutted three warehouses, seven shops and two cars at Mohamed Bahr Commercial Building, located near the Abu Baker Al Sidiq Metro station in Dubai.
The Dubai Civil Defence operations room received information about the blaze around 12.25pm and brigades from the Port Saeed fire station, police rescue team and ambulance immediately rushed to the site, said Major-General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, director of the Dubai Civil Defence. They arrived within seven minutes and evacuated the building as they tried hard to douse the blaze.

Three warehouses containing stationery, papers and paints were destroyed in the fire. A car repair garage was also gutted.
As the blaze was spreading, fire fighters from civil defence stations from Rashidya and Hamriya were pressed into service.
The operation was led by Colonel Ali Hassan Al Matoua, assistant director of the Dubai Civil Defence for rescue operation. Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, was also present at the fire site.
"More than nine fire engines and a big rescue team managed to control the fire around 4.40pm. They started the cooling operation thereafter," Al Matroushi said.
He added that due to the flammable materials, including furniture and mattresses, controlling the fire took quite a while and heavy black smoke continued to billow out until 6pm.
Mahmood Hamed, spokesperson of the Dubai Civil Defence, said there were no reports of injuries or suffocation.
It started in cars
Khaleej Times learnt that the fire erupted in two cars that were parked in front of the warehouse located at the back of a residential building. There were two cylinders near the cars.
According to a civil defence official, the fire extended to the two warehouses and then to the front of the residential building, destroying seven shops. Parts of the building's upper floors were damaged, too.
He said fire fighters used foam and water to put out the blaze. The cooling operation continued for hours. The Dubai Police's forensic experts will take over the site and find out the cause of the fire. An investigation of material losses will also be carried out.
A witness said that when the fire started, they heard loud explosions and the flames spread out fast. He said the fire fighters arrived immediately and all shops in the area were closed.
