Yousuf is receiving plastic and reconstructive surgery from Dr Mardini, a specialist orthopaedic surgeon from the Emirates Hospital who has donated his services to Yousuf’s case.

Nadia Wehbe, PCRF spokesperson, said, “Yousaf will receive at least one other operation, but the prognosis is positive. His parents are very happy that something could be done for him.” She added, “We work with amazingly generous and highly-skilled medical professionals here in the UAE, and we hope to be able to help more children each successive year.”

Yousuf is the third patient brought to Dubai by the PCRF in a year. Previously, five-year old Rawan Al Goholan underwent plastic and reconstructive surgery at International Medical Clinic under Dr Jaffer Khan, and 13-year old Yousef Halahli received care from Dr Marc Sinclair from the Dubai Bone and Joint Centre for his congenital leg deformities.

The PCRF operates in the United Arab Emirates under the auspices of the Red Crescent Society. There will be a fundraising gala to boost the group’s project capacity on February 21, 2007.

The gala dinner will witness the attendance of Trio Joubran, the world-renowned Oud players, who will provide entertainment, and the keynote address will be given by prominent Palestinian leader Hanan Ashrawi.
