Keeping a city sparkling is no easy task, and the residents - along with the authorities - have to ome together in this endeavour.
Residents of Dubai are well aware that the city is a stickler for rules - for their own good - and violating it might cost them dearly on their pockets.
So, if you are visiting Dubai as a tourist or are a resident, it would be preferable to know the local rules.
Dubai Municipality on their website has listed offences and the fines payable. Throwing waste on the streets, urinating in facilities not designated for such purposes, spitting in public, can invite a fine of Dh500 in Dubai.
A fine of Dh10,000 is payable if you don't take the required step for preventing the leakage or flow of wastewaters from the building or the falling of the same from tankers on the general.
With the summer approaching, take care that your air conditioner water does not leak on the pavements and roads as you are liable for a fine.
You must be aware that chewing gum in Dubai Metro or the platform and Dubai buses isn't allowed and you can be fined if caught. But be careful when you spit out your gum as spitting gum in public place can cost you Dh1,000 in fine.
One particular offence - "Disposing of wastewater in any manner in the open places or in places other than designated by the competent and concerned authorities" could make you poorer by Dh100,000.
