The Dubai Police's road shoulder radars record an average of over 80 violations every day, a top officer has said. Since the introduction of the special radars to monitor road shoulder violations in March, the police have recorded 21,300 violations (till October 31).
Despite the radars flagging down illegal overtaking from road shoulders, motorists continue to do so, said Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of the General Department of Traffic.
He said the number of road shoulder violations is "high" in the emirate. He stressed these violations are being caught because of the new radars.
Col Al Mazroui warned that road shoulder violations attract a fine of Dh600 and six black points.
