The UAE has currently seven technical cooperation projects with IAEA for the 2016-2017 IAEA TC cycle.
The federal nuclear agency has conducted a workshop aimed at reviewing the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) initiatives in the country.
About 25 representatives from various departments participated in the 'Workshop on Monitoring and Evaluation Methodology of IAEA Technical Cooperation (TC) Projects to the UAE' at the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
Besides FANR officials, representatives from Ministry of Health, National Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, Dubai Health Authority and Zayed Military Hospital attended the workshop. Officials from the IAEA TC department and the UAE Permanent Mission to the IAEA in Vienna assisted workshop participants with management tools to implement, monitor and assess their projects in the UAE.

FANR Director-General Christer Viktorsson said: "We greatly appreciate the work of the IAEA Technical Cooperation Department that enables the UAE to benefit fully from nuclear- and radiation-related technologies in the fields of energy, health and other areas."
Separately, IAEA officials visited Rashid Hospital, Dubai, and discussed the best practices to be applied in a new national project aimed at enhancing the quality assurance of radiation in healthcare.
Since joining the IAEA in 1976, IAEA technical support has been available to the UAE through more than 150 TC projects, nationally, within the region and globally.
