The Patrols Department of Abu Dhabi Police announced on Monday.

Vehicles are impounded usually when motorists drive recklessly or at high speed on internal and main roads in the city, posing risks to other road users. Such people also face other penalties as stipulated in the federal traffic law.

Colonel Hussain Ahmed Al Harthi, Director of the department, said the vehicle yard has been set up as part of the steps the department is taking to provide a safe traffic environment in the emirate and reduce deaths and injuries in accidents.

“There will not be any leniency towards daredevils who drive recklessly, speed and commit violations, putting road users’ lives at risk,” he said. The civil and police patrols recently caught 11 motorists who were driving at over 200kmph from different areas in Abu Dhabi, including a motorist who sped at 248kmph. Deterrent penalties were imposed on the violators.
