The Sharjah Municipality has introduced new paid parking zones in streets in Al Umm Al Tarafa area to ensure easy availability of parking spaces.
The municipality announced that the parking fees will be imposed in areas including Abdul Rahman Abn Awf street, Khalil Mutran street and Street No 2, effective from today.
Officials at the municipality's public parking department said that paid parking machines have already been installed in the area for easy access. He added that the project will ensure parking space availability for residents, visitors and shoppers and minimise the misuse of parking lots near residential and commercial areas.
Paid parking is also set to take care of those who leave their cars parked for long periods of time near shopping areas, without taking into consideration the needs of other shoppers or visitors to the area. It has been noticed that misuse of parking has affected the business of many outlets in various Sharjah streets.
Paid parking is deemed the only solution to these issues, which also affect residents who find it difficult to find parking spots near their homes. The project also has been implimented based on the requests of many residents and shops in the area.
The municipality is also making parking fees payment easier, through SMS. Motorists can also apply for three-month, six-month or one-year parking stickers or cards that are available at the municipality.- afkarali@khaleejtimes.com
