MoL sends notices to 68 companies for flouting noon break
ABU DHABI - Within a week of launching the inspection campaign aimed at enforcing the noon-break rule on open work sites,

The Ministry of Labour (MoL) has found 68 companies violating the ministerial decision.
"The inspectors discovered over the campaign's first week that 68 firms had flouted the rule," Qassim Jameel, head of the inspection department at the MoL, told Khaleej Times yesterday. "We checked on more than 700 locations through the first week of the campaign, which will continue till the end of August," he added.

The inspection department had issued notices warning the 68 erring firms, which would also face legal action, he said.
According to the ministerial decision No.410 of 2006, companies found in violation of the rule for the first time will be moved to category (C) at least for three months. First-time offenders would alternatively have to pay a Dh10,000 fine. The MoL will levy the fines in accordance with cabinet decree No.19 of 2005 regarding fees and banking guarantees. Companies figuring in category (C) will not receive the MoL's sanction for a minimum period of three months when they submit applications for work permits and visas.
Meanwhile, the MoL is set to conduct a workshop today on the noon-break campaign. Dr Ali bin Abdullah Al Kaabi, Minister of Labour, will hold a Press conference leading up to the workshop. The symposium, to be held at the Armed Forces Officers Club, will highlight the launch of the noon-break campaign. It will be attended by Dr Khaleed Khazraji, under-secretary of MoL, among a host of other officials.
