“Though all roads leading to the Burj Dubai shall remain open for the time being, we advise residents planning to attend the ceremony to take the Metro,” Major General Mohamed Eid Al Mansouri, Director of Organisation, Protective Security and Emergency department-Dubai Police, told Khaleej Times.

“Staring tomorrow (Monday) morning, the Dubai Mall Metro station shall be open for the public. The audience may park their vehicles at the parking lots specified there.”

“Public buses will transport people from the metro station to the inauguration site and back,” he said.

Major General Mansouri then said that traffic patrols will be present round the Burj Dubai to ensure traffic flow. “None of the roads leading to the three gates of the site shall be closed though they may be blocked as per demand.”

The top police officer then told the spectators coming from Abu Dhabi to take Shaikh Zayed road.

“They may park their vehicles at the Parking area of Dubai Mall or the other parking spaces around the Burj Dubai,” he said. Major General Mansouri then urged the people interested in attending the event to be there as early as possible.

“As instructed by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the event shall be open for the public. However, the location may not accommodate an unlimited number of spectators.”

“Still, people can enjoy watching the inauguration fireworks even from the beach. Only, they may miss a documentary on the Burj.”

Indicating that the inauguration ceremony shall kick off by 8pm, Major General Mansouri said the three gates leading to the site will be opened by 4pm.

“The gates shall then be closed before the activities start, particularly prior to the fireworks, to ensure people’s safety around the Burj.” There is one gate at Shaikh Zayed road north of the Burj while the two others are at Dubai Mall and south Al Bahhar Souk.

Khaleej Times earlier cited Major General Mansouri as saying that nearly 1,000 officers will help police the event at Business Bay.

“They will be deployed in full capacity over two hours of activities that include the Isha prayers in the mosque located on the 57th floor of the 160-plus-storey building,” he said.

“We specialised in parking areas that could accommodate 7,300 visitors.”

The occasion coincides with the Accession Day of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. - (ahmedshaaban@khaleejtimes.com )
