A worker allegedly strangled a Bangladeshi prostitute to death with her own scarf after a row over Dh500, a court heard.
The 29-year-old Bangladeshi, M.M., was believed to have met the victim on March 1, 2013 in Jebel Ali. The defendant M.M. has been charged with premeditated murder and theft in the Court of First Instance.
M.M. fled the country after the murder in April 2013. However, he was caught in September 2015 and placed in detention. He admitted in the investigation that he had met the victim about two years earlier through one of his countrymen.
He was told that she was a prostitute. "I called her and we took a taxi. We walked to a sandy yard behind a dune."
The woman demanded Dh500 after sex, which ended in an argument between them.
"When I told her I only got Dh200, she refused to accept it. She said the road was near and she would report me to the police".
He claimed that as she grabbed him by his shirt, he felt scared and could not stop himself from pulling her by the scarf she wore around her neck. When she became motionless, he got scared and fled the scene taking her mobile phone.
A police lieutenant said that they apprehended M.M. after tracking the victim's mobile phone.
"He kept the victim's phone and used it. Besides, we came to know that there were many phone calls between them on that day".
The officer quoted M.M. as
admitting to having killed the woman.
Another police major said that the woman's body was found in an advanced decomposition state on May 1, 2014.
