Man in UAE betrays best friend's trust; sells villa, land, car for Dh9 million

Abu Dhabi - He treated him like family, but he used his trust against him.

A man in Abu Dhabi was shocked to discover that his best friend embezzled his villa, commercial land and luxury car, on Tuesday.
The Emirati national had given his friend, an Arab national, power of attorney allowing him to manage, sell and transfer his property for him.
According to his testimony at court, the victim claimed that he had given the man his trust, love and respect, "I treated him like family, but he used my trust against me. He took advantage of my being busy with other business matters to convince me to give him power of attorney.
"He then took my property, worth approximately Dh9 million and sold it without my knowledge."
The defendant testified that he had only done what the power of attorney gave him the right to do. 
Mohamed Al Marzouqi, the victim's lawyer, replied that if that were so, then he should have handed over the money which he obtained from the sales to his client. 
The court postponed the next hearing till October 2 for both sides to prepare their statements.
