The 40-year-old Indian worker did not appear in court, and the Court of First Instance adjourned the hearing to November 28 to bring him from prison.

According to the arraignment sheet of the Public Prosecution, the defendant killed the victim by hitting his face with a big stone while he was asleep.

The case dates back to February 26 when the police found a body in Al Quoz Industrial area one day after the crime. “We knew from the Operation Room of the Dubai police about a body found in the playing yard behind a labour accommodation,” an Emirati lieutenant said in the investigation. The police officers, who went to the crime scene and interrogated witnesses, learnt that the victim used to drink liquor daily with an Indian man, the defendant. Witnesses said the two men would always have a brawl after having drinks.

The cops could track the defendant with the help of descriptions provided by the witnesses. He was arrested and brought to the General Department of Criminal Investigation.

“The accused told us that on that day, he had been drinking alcohol with the victim. The latter, intoxicated, insulted and assaulted him,” the lieutenant told the prosecutors.

Later, the victim went to sleep while the defendant sat down to smoke. He brought a stone and allegedly hit the victim on his face as he was sleeping. Then he went to a petrol station and brought a blanket with which he covered the victim before fleeing from the place.

According to the report of the Criminal Evidence Department, the cause of death was severe head trauma. The brain was hemorrhaged and the skull and face bones were fractured. The victim was also found intoxicated at the time of death.

The stone used in the crime was seized by the police and there was blood on it, the DNA of which matched with the victim's. Drops of blood were also found on a fuel tank of a nearby power generator, which indicated that the victim was repeatedly beaten.
