The Dubai Municipality has responded to the circulating rumours regarding the danger of consuming white Chinese garlic in the UAE. 
The rumour alleges that the spice is injected with a chemical called methyl bromide that attacks the nervous and respiratory system, even causing death in some cases. 
The chemical is reportedly used on the garlic to retain the herb for a longer time and acquire its white color.

The rumor says that the garlic is injected with a chemical substance called "methyl bromide" to acquire the white color & to retain it for a long time, but this information is not based on any scientific references or official sources & Methyl Bromide" is used to control insects & fungus found in agricultural soil and its health effects are limited to inhalation or skin exposure. Additionally, the Montreal Protocol of 1987 has called for a ban of this chemical as it contributes to ozone depletion. Dubai Municipality denied the rumour on Instagram, stating that it was not based on any scientific evidence or official sources. 
It also added that methyl bromide is used to control insects and fungus in agricultural soil and its health effects are limited to inhalation or skin exposure. 
Dubai Municipality stressed that it properly inspects all imported and local food shipments to ensure that it is fit for human consumption.
