Internal TV network in Dubai prison

DUBAI - Major-General Khamis Mattar Al Mazina, Deputy Commander In-Chief of the Dubai Police, on Sunday launched the internal TV network at the Dubai Central Jail in the presence of Mohammed Humaid Al Suwaidi, Director of the prison.

Khamis said that the General Department of Corrective and Punitive of the Dubai Police is trying to adopt the international standard in taking care of the inmates and to provide quality services. He said that the police are encouraging the inmates to rehabilitate themselves through promoting their thinking and allowing them to get information so that they will benefit the society when they are freed. He said that the Dubai Police were keen to make changes and to provide better environment for creative things.

He said the Internal TV channel is the first of its type in the region. The inmates will watch awareness and entertainment programmes to make them aware of the concept of good conduct and respect to laws. The police are protecting the rights of the inmates and adopting the latest techniques in dealing with them and educate them on social, health and safety issues. He added that cultural programmes will be a vital point in changing the behaviour of the inmates.

Dr Adil Al Suwaidi, Director of Training, said that the TV will have different programmes for 18 hours per day and inmates services programme will be for six hours. He said that films and series chosen by the officials will be broadcast in addition to religious programmes in various languages. Some programmes will be produced by the inmates and some others will be executed in coordination with media organisations. He said that the police will present the prison administrative orders in addition to awareness programmes, visitors timing, court and hospital dates and lectures through the TV.

Al Suwaidi added that various sections of the police would supervise the programmes and the prison guard will inspect all the equipment before being supplied. Colonel Al Suwaidi said the authorities will see the number of inmates who watch the programmes and make annual changes accordingly.
