Hi-tech scanning systems will be used to check heavy trucks at the borders soon, according to UAE transport authorities. The move, which will be implemented in the first quarter of 2018, is meant to speed up work, reduce congestion and waiting time of truck drivers at the borders for clearance.
The Federal Authority for Land and Maritime Transport said it is working with relevant bodies to implement the third phase of the Road Transport Law. The officials said the first stage was the completion of all phases of the Road Transport Law No. 9 of 2011. "The first phase includes the vehicle licensing mechanism and the issuance of operating licences, customs cards and the provision of a database on existing trucks to ensure that they meet standards."
The Land Transport Law, which was implemented in different phases from September 2013, stipulates that all companies and institutions in the country shall adhere to the specifications of road transport to ensure the safety of passengers and goods. It also specifies the companies and establishments that carry out international road transport activities are licensed as per the rules.
