An alarm has been raised after a 'customer' drove away without paying for a bunch of Dubai Shopping Festival raffle coupons from a busy petrol station.
Dubai Police is looking for the fortune hunter who vanished with five Infinity tickets worth Dh1,000 from a petrol station in Al Qusais.
While confirming the strange daylight robbery, a senior official in the Al Qusais Police Station said no arrest has been made so far in connection with the crime. Police will be examining CCTV footage to identify the vehicle and its driver.
As the city gears up for the 22nd edition of Dubai Shopping Festival, salesmen are actively selling raffle coupons for various promotions. The Infinity coupons worth Dh200 each have, traditionally, been one of the most attractive lottery schemes.
"A customer in a Toyota van with a Sharjah number plate took a bunch of Infiniti Raffle coupons and drove away without paying for them. The van was parked in front of a fast food outlet for sometime, and when the sales staff approached him Infiniti tickets while driving out, he took them on the pretext of checking his lucky number," said an eyewitness to the daylight drama.
A full bunch of Infinity tickets contains 25 raffle coupons worth Dh5,000, but luckily for the salesperson, 20 from the booklet were already sold. The guy who drove away with five Infinity coupons has a chance to win one Infiniti QX70 plus Dh150,000 in cash.
"He took the raffle coupon bunch and smartly told the Nepali sales staff that he is parking in front of the convenience store. Instead of parking, he just sped away. Within no time, he disappeared as the traffic was smooth," the customer added.
"We have been going out of our way to lure customers. Now we will be careful because you never know what is someone's intention," added an Asian salesman selling coupons in a fuel station.
