Listen to your children and inculcate in them values in tune with Emirati culture to develop a cohesive society in the country, The Mother of the Nation has urged the citizens in a meeting held in Abu Dhabi recently.
Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF) and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, made this observation while launching the Social Family Council (SFC) in the meeting held in headquarters of FDF.
The "Mother of the Nation", while presiding over the FDF's second meeting of the year, also urged all ministries, authorities, institutions and individuals across the country to work towards giving care to the children, as well as recognising their problems.
She urged parents to supervise the children's use of modern technology including mobile phones, computers as well as social media networks, which could affect their interaction with their families.
She also called upon the officials in the country to adopt programmes, projects and strategies that enhance the role of the family in the society and promotes relations between children and their parents in the light of the Emirati values, traditions and customs instilled by forefathers.
Shaikha Fatima said: "In the UAE, we live as one family thanks to the efforts exerted by The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Supreme Council Members, Their Highnesses Rulers of the Emirates and Crown Princes."
She asked families to instill values and principles in educating and bringing up their children, adding, such values are based on giving care for them, following them up, holding dialogues and listening to their problems, as well as not leaving them to be victims of external factors.
Mother of the Nation added: "The family is the cornerstone of the society and one of the pillars of its success, progress and stability of the family and the UAE family is able to address all new challenges that affect family ties and children's minds."
FDF drafted a social initiative under the slogan "A wise family .. a cohesive society".
The SFC aims to spread awareness among the community and to enhance interaction between the families and social bodies in Abu Dhabi, while developing innovative and smart means to encourage segments that are more prone to social risks.
The initiative's implementation mechanism is embedded in the council's articles of association, which covers policies, procedures and provisions for establishing the council's higher committee and sub-committees in the western, central and eastern regions of Abu Dhabi.
At the onset of the meeting, FDF Director-General Mariam Mohammed Al Romaithi welcomed the 'Mother of the Nation', her guests and thanked her for lending patronage to the foundation's activities.
"This meeting is an opportunity for us to renew our love, allegiance and pledge to our wise leadership and to you, Your Highness, the Mother of the Nation. We hold our heads high, proud of our beloved country's achievements. Ours is the country of peace, amity, security and righteousness," she said.
Shaikha Fatima called upon all Ministry of Education, Abu Dhabi Education Council and all other authorities and institutions to the importance of cooperation between them and the Emirati family.
Dr Maytha bint Salem Al Shamsi, Minister of State and Advisor of Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), Dr Amal Al Qubaisi, Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Education Council, Maryam Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Director-General of the FDF, Profe. Maha Taysir Barakat, Director-General of the Health Authority Abu Dhabi, Noura Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the General Women's Union, and others attended the meeting.
