The Dubai Police have arrested three Asians for allegedly stealing precious stones worth Dh10.8 million from a company in Al Barsha.
According to Maj-Gen Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, assistant commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police for criminal investigation, in an operation tiled Thunderstorm, the police managed to arrest the suspects within a few minutes after receiving information about the theft.
Immediately after receiving information about the theft, the general department of criminal investigations of the Dubai Police formed a team including special task force officers and arrested the suspects.
Maj-Gen Al Mansouri said the owner of the company, a European national, lodged a complaint with Al Barsha Police Station that the precious stones kept in the shop were stolen. He said he found out about the theft after returning from a foreign trip.
The police managed to arrest the accomplices of the main suspect in possession of the stolen stones while trying to flee the country.
The main suspect confessed to the crime and told the police that he kept a surveillance on the son of the owner, who was disabled, while he was in the shop. “He caught the son through a camera while entering the secret code to open the safe where the precious stones were kept. He then handed over the code to his accomplices, who stole the stones later,” said Maj-Gen Al Mansouri.
He thanked the investigation teams for their dedication in arresting the suspects.
Maj-Gen Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, praised the efforts exerted by the general department of criminal investigation staff for maintaining the security and safety in the emirate. He also honoured the investigation team who participated in “Thunderstorm” operation.
