Gang of 7 arrested in UAE for fake prize scam

Victims would fall for the prizes and give away their bank details.

A seven-member gang of Asians, who ran a fake prize racket, was busted by the Ajman Police and their Abu Dhabi counterparts. As many as 19 mobile phones and 870 SIM cards were seized from the gang members. 
The scamsters used to contact their targets - over phone or through text messages - informing them that they had won huge cash prizes. After the victims got convinced and fell for the fake prizes, they would prod them to give away their bank account (and card) details and then steal their money.
Taking to Instagram, the Ajman Police said that the gang tricked and defrauded many victims with this modus operandi. Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Saeed Al Nuaimi, director of Criminal Investigation Department at Ajman Police, pointed out that some of the victims reported the matter to the police after they were duped.
A team - comprising the Ajman Police and Abu Dhabi Police - was formed and investigation launched. The cops tracked down the fraudsters and raided their accommodation in Ajman's Al Rashidiya area. They were immediately nabbed. A total of 19 mobile phones and 870 SIM cards were seized from them which were used for the illegal operation. The gang members confessed to committing the crime.
The police called on the people to be very cautious and never reveal their bank details to anyone. They also urged them to report to the police if they encounter any such incident.
