The Fujairah Municipality has ordered the closure of the Central Fish Market in the emirate for four months.

Informed sources with the civic society said the temporary closure took effect from Wednesday, January 27, 2021.

“The Central Fish Market, based at Al Gharfa area, has been closed to introduce thorough maintenance and development works,” they said.

Customers are advised to visit the alternative fish market at the Fishermen Society at Al Raghilat area, the sources added.

“All types of fresh fish, local and imported, will be secured at affordable prices at the alternative market as was the case at the Central Fish Market, which was a key player in the seafood trade in the emirate,” they said.

Ibrahim Saleh, an Egyptian resident, said the alternative fish market is not that far.

“Hopefully, the new fish market will have more counters and rest areas because the old one always sees crowds of customers who flock from other emirates to it every day to enjoy its fresh, tasty, diverse, yet affordable fish.”

The fish market is open to customers from 7am to 9pm on a daily basis.
