The family’s future decisions will be handled by courts in the Emirates
The play is scheduled to be staged on March 16 at the Cultural Foundation's Auditorium at 8pm.
The play, which has been written and directed by Rita Aoun-Abdo, is slated to be the opening event of the Francophone Week organised by the French Embassy and the Alliance Francaise (AF) in Abu Dhabi.
Briefing newsmen yesterday, Rita noted that the play tells the tale of the theatrical prompter, who decides to raise the curtains of his own play, in a rebellion to his life of reflected glory.
The action of the play moves from the 'Commedia dell arte' of the Renaissance to the classical tragi-comedy of the 17th century, including in its ambit, epic extracts of the romantic period and ending in typical absurdist style with 'Ionesco'.
The play will also include excerpts from Persian poet, Omar Khayyam's Rubaiyyat and tales from the One Thousand and One Nights, in addition to the legendary Cyranno de Bergerac.
She said that through the eyes of the 'souffleur' (the prompter), the audience traces the evolution of French drama, while simultaneously gaining an insight into the fascinating and elusive character he depicts. No stranger to the medium of theatre, Rita has compiled guide books in her native Lebanon for drama teachers, while also conducting theatre workshops.
