DUBAI - The first phase of the 588km network of bicycle tracks in Dubai is scheduled for completion by the middle of next year, officials from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) told Khaleej Times on Thursday.
The 25km of cycle tracks in the first phase will be from near Jumeirah Beach Hotel to Al Diyafah Road, from Al Mina to Al Mankhool Road, from Al Diyafah (Satwa Roundabout) to Khalid Bin Waleed Street, and the Dubai Creekside.
The officials added that there would also be cycle tracks along the service roads running parallel to the Shaikh Zayed Road.
“We are going to come up with cycle tracks on the service roads along the Shaikh Zayed Road. The RTA has included the bicycle track project in the beautification scheme of the road,” they said.
The cycle tracks are expected to be of help to many people whose offices are located at a short distance.
“People whose work places are nearby can very well use these tracks. Most of the Central Business Districts of the emirate will be connected by these tracks.
“We hope that this will, in turn, reduce the number of cars resulting in easing the traffic situation in the emirate,” officials said.
