UAE residents are eagerly waiting to get their hands on the first copies of American author Michael Wolff's new tell-all book, 'Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House'. Book retailers are however still awaiting clearance from the National Media Council to officially start retailing the book in UAE.
Citing 'unprecedented demand', retail outlets have places orders for several 100 copies of the fast-selling book from its local publisher Hachette Book Group. Sarah Clayton, International Sales Manager of Hachette Books told Khaleej Times, "The book is available already and pre-orders from retailers have been unprecedented. Given the subject, it is easily the fastest selling book of 2018 so far."
Clayton confirmed that it should be hitting retail outlets in the next couple of weeks. However, retail outlets, though are still awaiting clearance from the National Media Council to officially start selling the books, are currently accepting walk-in and telephonic pre-orders.
The book, which released in the United States on January 5, has been topping the list of best sellers across all platforms. Fire and Fury shot to the top of Amazon's booklist and has been doing well on audio versions and Kindle platforms as well.
Demand for the book is very high in the UAE. "Scores of people have been calling and walking in the stores making enquiries for pre-orders," said Sreevas Sreedhar, Buying and Merchandising Manager Kinokuniya Book Store. The store has ordered 100 plus copies and will be priced at Dhs98. "There are no plans as such for online display, but based on the demand, we will make a decision for online retailing as well."
Kinokuniya is importing the book from its publishers in the UK. Meanwhile, a representative from Magrudy's confirmed that 500 copies of Fire and Fury have been ordered for the stores. "Readers can place pre-orders by calling the store, and online pre-orders will be made available on the website as well," he added.
A salesman from Virgin Megastore also confirmed that the stocks of the book has been procured, and is expected to hit the shelves within a week. He said, "I would recommend that you wait for another week." The book is being retailed for Dhs79 at Virgin Megastore outlets and no pre-order services are being offered.
Meanwhile, UAE residents also expressed interest in buying and reading a copy of the book. John Martin, a resident of Sharjah and marketing professional said, "With all the talk about the book on the media; I am definitely very keen to find out what the book is all about. I've already read excerpts online, and would like to read the final copy."
