Residents have been warned in the past about various types of frauds that can occur online, mostly aimed at stealing financial or personal data. This could let criminals gain access to your bank account or even allow them to steal your identity.

What is the fraud?
Fraudsters create websites that appear trustworthy, but are fake pages that they use to promote products or services at cheap prices. This entices users to click on the links and leave them vulnerable to the scammers, who can now steal their personal and financial data.
How to protect against these scams
Abu Dhabi Police have stressed the necessity of taking preventative measures and being vigilant online. Here are some of the steps to take to protect yourself from online fraud.
Verify the authenticity of electronic links
Protect your credit card details, do not enter them and passwords on unknown websites
Only use trusted websites for payments
Only use apps approved by government entities or those found on well-know app stores
Do not share confidential or personal information — such as account or card details, passwords for online banking and other services, personal identification numbers for ATMs and security codes (CCV)
