UAE: 4 tips to prevent your e-scooter from bursting into flames

Last year, Dubai saw 254 accidents related to bicycles and e-scooters, resulting in 10 deaths and 259 injuries

After terrifying incidents of e-scooters catching fire and combusting spontaneously across the globe, Abu Dhabi Civil Defence has issued an advisory to residents.

Last year, e-scooters were temporarily banned on the "Dubai Metro due to their potential of catching fire".

Abu Dhabi Civil Defence has given several tips to residents so they can avoid such an incident. In a video by the authority, an e-scooter could be seen erupting into flames spontaneously.

However, as the fire grew in the video, an official came onscreen to explain three ways that residents could avoid such an incident.

Here are four tips that should keep your e-scooter safe:

  1. Use only original or manufacturer-approved chargers, avoid unreliable ones

  2. Charge vehicles in well-ventilated areas, away from flammable items

  3. Never leave them unattended while charging

  4. Avoid overcharging by ensuring you unplug your vehicle as soon as it has been charged

Earlier this week, experts called for stricter use of e-scooters, including the creation of a federal entity that will act as a neutral oversight for all aspects related to soft mobility and road safety.
