World-famous Sophia the humanoid robot may have accepted the Saudi Arabian citizenship already, but now the UAE also has a robot that has Emirati written all over it. A group of UAE University students have created Bu Saif - a robot that speaks Arabic and teaches UAE history and culture.
Dressed in traditional Emirati attire, a kandura and ghutra, Bu Saif is being displayed at the annual Gitex Technology Week at the Dubai World Trade Centre until October 10.
The students are keen on getting an actual Emirati passport for Bu Saif, who has been designed for working at a museum to teach visitors about all things UAE.
"Bu Saif is a robot that is based on an elderly person. We'd like to introduce him into museums where he can have interactions with people and teach them the history and culture of the emirates. He can learn from conversations and he can actually learn from the camera in his eyes and the scene around him," said Shamma Alremeithi, a student at UAE University who helped create the robot.
