Sharjah: Firefighters put out massive fire that raged for nearly 24 hours

Using special equipment, they tackled it from on ground and by air with choppers and Bambi buckets

After a major blaze broke out at around 8am at Hamriyah Port in Sharjah on Saturday, specialised teams have completely controlled the fire at 6.25 am Sunday morning, within 24 hours of its outbreak, authorities confirmed.

Authorities swiftly responded to the blaze, which ignited highly flammable materials stored on-site, and managed to prevent its spread with no human injuries.

Maj-Gen Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, commander-in-chief of Sharjah Police and Head of the Local Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Management Team, confirmed to Khaleej Times no casualties have been recorded to date. "Firefighting efforts [were] ongoing, with the highest priority placed on safeguarding lives and property,” he said.

Specialised teams used advanced equipment and operating under top-tier emergency protocols to control the fire, he added.

Major General bin Amer also urged the public to follow updates through official channels and cautioned against circulating rumors, stressing the importance of relying solely on verified sources for information.

Last week, a fire broke out at a petrochemical and fiberglass facility in Sharjah’s Al Sajaa area. Sharjah Civil Defence said the fire was quickly contained and did not spread to neighboring facilities

That same day, May 25, another fire broke out at a warehouse in Abu Dhabi's Mussaffah industrial area. Firefighting teams from Abu Dhabi Police and the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority worked together to put out the blaze. Authorities said there were no injuries or casualties reported.

During emergency situations, authorities have repeatedly urged residents and media to rely solely on official sources for information, warning against the spread of rumours or unverified reports.
