Dubai: Fire breaks out at university campus; no injuries reported

A fire broke out at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education — Dubai campus on Wednesday, sending plumes of thick smoke into the sky and drawing widespread attention on social media.
Videos circulating online captured a massive blaze consuming what seemed to be a small section of the building situated away from the main campus, sparking concern among onlookers and passers-by.
The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed.

According to initial reports, no injuries have been reported so far.

Several onlookers were seen stopping to film the blaze, with footage quickly going viral across platforms.
In a statement to Khaleej Times, a spokesperson from Manipal Academy of Higher Education said, "Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Dubai Campus can confirm that a fire that broke out in the compound area of its hostel has been extinguished by the authorities. No injuries or casualties were reported, and all students and staff were safely evacuated as a precautionary measure. The cabin was being used as a storage area."
"The university extends its sincere gratitude to the Civil Defence and Police Authorities for their swift response.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, and the university is reviewing all campus safety protocols in coordination with relevant authorities as a precautionary measure."
Some students of the university took to social media to express their concern — wishing one another safety, inquiring about the cause of the fire, and sharing their support.
Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) was established in 2000 in Dubai, UAE, and is a branch campus of Manipal Academy, India.
It is one of the largest private universities in the country which has enrolled more than 25,000 students in 23 disciplines and study areas.
Meanwhile, Khaleej Times has contacted Dubai Civil Defence and is currently awaiting a response.
