"The establishments from now on will be prohibited from using private post box rented under the personal name, or, in the name of another person to receive their postal items," said Salem Al Shaya, Assistant Director-General of Emirates Post.
He said the decision which came after a one-month grace period is an attempt to provide better services.
"Prior to taking this decision, the Emirates Postal Corporation had set up a committee to study the difficulties and to suggest solutions to ensure that letters and documents do not get lost, delivery of documents is done in shortest possible time, guarantee that the documents reach the person concerned and help in easy distribution of mails."
He said that some establishments used the private post box registered under the personal name of their owner.
In this case, Emirates Post will not be able to deliver the mail and documents if they are addressed to the private post box of the owner.
Emirates Post often receives queries from security officials, notifications from courts to concerned persons, mails and documents from Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and Economic Depatment. But, often the postal authority is unable to find the right address or person in time because of the post box registered in individual owners name.
Mr Al Shaya said that a number of establishments which are a group of companies comprising 12 to 14 sister companies received all their mail at one post box address, making it difficult for the box to accomodate the huge mail volumes.
"Due to the limited space, most of the mail gets transferred to other places and some times even lost.
"As a result, such companies should rent individual boxes according to the number of companies owned by the group."
The decision will improve the efficiency of public and private sectors, adding that the annual rent of a box is only Dh250 which is affordable for companies.
Meanwhile, against a small rental fee, Emirates Post is spending more money to provide better services, Mr Al Shaya said.
