Each time a vehicle passes through any Salik gate across Dubai, tech detects the vehicle and scans the Salik sticker tag
Dubai’s exclusive toll gate operator, Salik PJSC, announced on Tuesday the company is in the process of launching customised tags to allow corporate customers “to personalise their Salik tags with unique designs and messages".
Salik has yet to announce further details but noted the initiative “reflects (our) commitment to enhancing customer experience and embracing innovation".
Salik, which means ‘clear’ or ‘open’ in Arabic, is Dubai’s electronic toll collection system introduced in 2007. It uses Radio-Frequency-Identification (RFID) and Automatic-Number-Plate-Recognition (ANPR) technologies. Each vehicle should have its own tag.

Each time a vehicle passes through any Salik gate across Dubai, the RFID detects the vehicle and scans the Salik sticker tag. The toll fee — which is Dh6 during peak hours (6am-10am; 4pm to 8pm); or Dh4 during off peak hours — is deducted from the owner’s prepaid toll account. This process is automatic, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted journey.
Salik account is a single user account with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Additional vehicles can be added into an existing Salik account but each vehicle should have its own tag.
Meanwhile, Salik announced last week motorists can soon use the balance in their Salik e-wallet to pay for fuel in select petrol stations across Dubai. This comes following the signing on May 8, of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Salik and Enoc Group.
Under the agreement, Salik and Enoc customers will enjoy integrated payment options for fuelling and other services across Enoc’s petrol and retail locations. This means there’s an option not to pay in cash or with a card for any purchase at Enoc petrol stations as the transaction value will be automatically deducted from the customer’s balance in their Salik e-wallet.
Seamless payments are powered by Salik’s e-wallet, and are already used to pay parking fees at key destinations such as Dubai Mall, Dubai Marina Mall, Souq Al Bahar, Dubai Harbor, Miracle Garden, Marina Walk, and more.
