Dubai Statistics Centre scored the highest on the index, followed by the Dubai Public Prosecution and the Dubai Police, Sheikh Hamdan said.

Employees of the Dubai Statistics Centre are the happiest among all other government staff in the emirate, according to the results of the city's latest happiness index.

Sheikh Hamdan in Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council, on Sunday reviewed and announced the results of the Dubai Government Employee Happiness Index for the year 2019. Staff's happiness was gauged through a survey conducted as part of the the emirate's government excellence programme.

Dubai Statistics Centre scored the highest with a rating of 97.16 per cent, followed by the Dubai Public Prosecution (93.56 per cent) and the Dubai Police (91.95 per cent).

Overall, the happiness of the city's government employees was rated 85 per cent on average, the index revealed. The poll looked into four main indicators of happiness, with entities averaging above 80 per cent for each aspect: Job loyalty (86 per cent); positivity (84 per cent); job satisfaction (84 per cent) and functional harmony (85 per cent).

"It is very encouraging to see that the highest scores in the index were achieved for the job loyalty indicator. This assures us that we are on the right track," Sheikh Hamdan said.

"I invite all government departments to work together to achieve the goal of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to create the world's happiest work environment within Dubai government."

Sheikh Hamdan urged the government teams to use the index as a tool to develop initiatives that could further improve their staff's happiness levels.

The Dubai Crown Prince said the 10 departments that were ranked the lowest are expected to improve their working environments, with several procedures laid out to help them achieve the goal.

Safe workplace amid Covid-19

He also commissioned a new survey to evaluate the government's progress in creating a safe and supportive workplace amid the Covid-19 situation.

"The happiness of our employees is one of Dubai government's highest priorities. We have achieved considerable progress in realising the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to embed happiness as a core value in the workplace," Sheikh Hamdan said.

"Ensuring a happy workforce creates the essential foundation for teamwork and excellence."

The Dubai Government Excellence Programme has been conducting surveys to evaluate the happiness levels of Dubai government employees for over 15 years. The index has encouraged Dubai government entities to create a positive work environment by adopting global best practices.
