The Roads and Transport Authority guidelines now allow up to four passengers to travel in Hala (Dubai Taxi) vans, which can be booked on the Careem app. Previously, all taxi travel had been restricted to two passengers per vehicle.
Since Hala van taxis have two rows of seats, two passengers can sit on each row to maintain social distancing. Fares for the van cost just as much as the regular sedan taxi service.
With limited Dubai Taxi vans available on the streets across the city, riders are advised to secure bookings via the Careem app. This way, they would be able to hail a ride from the comfort of their homes and see their waiting time and fare upfront. Average arrival times for Hala vans currently stand at six minutes.
Clemence Dutertre, CEO of Hala, said: "We are pleased to announce this positive move and hope it can make travel a little bit simpler for those of our riders who need to travel in groups, whether that be friends or families."

How to book:
.    Open the Careem app and select 'Hala Taxi'
.    Confirm your pickup location, and enter your destination
.    Choose 'Hala - Van Taxi' from the list of car types, seeing your waiting time and fare upfront
