A worker has been cleared by the Dubai Court of First Instance of blackmailing his ex-lover with obscene photos and videos of them together.
The Dubai public prosecution accused the 23-year-old Indian man of using inappropriate videos of him having sex with the woman to force her to keep seeing him and have sexual relations with him following a break-up.
A complaint was filed on June 12 at Al Rafaa police station.
The reason behind the court acquittal has not been immediately known.
During prosecution investigation, the complainant, a 25-year-old Indian maid, recounted that she was in a sexual relation with the defendant and they used to meet at his place. "He used to take intimate photos and videos of us together. On June 12, I was at a metro station when I ran into him. We had broken up. He showed me one of those video clips and threatened to circulate it and other clips unless I keep seeing him."
She complained against him at the police office at the metro station.
A policeman told the prosecutor he was on duty at 10.30am at the metro station when he spotted the defendant and the woman arguing loudly. "Both confessed they used to be involved in a sexual relation. The woman said he began blackmailing her with videos after she broke up with him. The accused worker claimed she promised to marry him but then left him and entirely cut it off with him. He confessed he had inappropriate clips of them together, which he filmed with her consent."
The officer later handed both of them over to the police station.
They were referred to the Court of Misdemeanors on the charge of having sex out of wedlock.
During the prosecution investigation, the defendant admitted he had sex with the maid and took pictures and filmed it as well.
The defendant's mobile phone, which was seized as a piece of evidence, contained one clip relevant to the case.
The ruling may be appealed by the public prosecution.
