A jewellery designer accused of raping a 53-year-old woman repeatedly at his place, was sentenced to one-year imprisonment on Wednesday (July 31) by the Dubai Court of First Instance.
Public prosecution records show the incident took place on January 4 this year in Al Barsha when the 32-year-old Nigerian man lured the Serbian victim to his place. He had met her on an online chat app.
The court convicted him of charges of rape and physical assault and ordered his deportation.
The complainant recounted during investigation that she had met the accused online on January 4 this year and he invited her to a café in Dubai Marina.
"I took a cab to see him but he then threatened me with a knife to go with him to his place. Once there, he locked the door and snatched my two mobile phones, passport, clothes and shoe."
She told the prosecutor that the defendant raped her in the bedroom about 20 times. "He beat me with his hand and deprived me of food and water. He made me sit still under threats. He forced me to eat dogs' food."
He later escorted her out of the building and stopped a cab for her. When she reached home, her daughter called the police.
The defendant's residential building CCTV footage showed him entering the building at 10.23pm on January 4 with the woman following him. The cameras did not capture any visible weapon in his hands. Another recording showed them walking out of the building at 6.29pm the next day in the same way.
According to the forensic report, the defendant's DNA traces were found on the victim's body. The victim was left with bruises after the incident. Initial examination showed she had hepatitis B.
The investigators noted in the case file that the defendant had also raped another woman, a Ukrainian, and for that another criminal case was registered against him at Al Barsha police station.
