Inmates who are violators of the UAE's Foreigners Entry and Residency Law will be able to complete travel procedures easily in Dubai from early next year.
The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners' Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA-Dubai) is set to launch a new project, the first-of-its-kind in the world, to raise and enhance the level of services for this category of inmates.
Brigadier Khalaf Al Ghaith, assistant director-general of follow-up sector of violators and foreigners in GDRFA-Dubai, said: "The procedure will be carried out in cooperation with the DUBZ, powered by dnata. It will provide a check-in service for all violator inmates - issuing a boarding pass and baggage allowance and then transferring to the airport. This enables the inmates to go directly to the passport control counter, and then to the flight gate."
The GDRFA-Dubai will hand over the passport or the travel document issued by the embassy or consulate in advance to the DUBZ, he added.
Major-General Mohammed Al Marri, director of the GDRFA, said: "The boarding pass for residency violators is considered a distinctive project in the UAE. It is a major shift in providing services and facilities for inmates, in line with the international status that the UAE has occupied in regional and international forums."
Al Marri explained that the project aims to facilitate and simplify procedures for inmates to leave the country without any possible travel hassle. "It also comes to achieve the happiness of this category before leaving the country," he added.
