Two police stations in Dubai now have 'virtual courtrooms', allowing defendants to attend their hearing without having to leave correctional facilities.
The Dubai Police General HQ recently set up the remote trial rooms with video-conferencing features at Al Barsha and Bur Dubai stations.
It was launched by the Dubai Police Stations Council in collaboration with the Public Prosecution and Dubai Courts.
"The virtual courtrooms intend to facilitate and improve services for defendants and speed up the process as part of continuous developments in all judicial services," said Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police.
Virtual trials have cut judicial procedures from seven to three steps, thus allowing staff members to save time and effort, the police chief added.
