An expat has been cleared by the Dubai Court of First Instance of the charge of beating his wife and causing her a permanent injury.
During the Dubai public prosecution investigation, the wife, a 42-year-old Greek, recounted how her husband, a 34-year-old European manager, beat her up and cursed her. "It happened at our house. He also took my mobile phone and filmed me. I think he wanted to prove something against me."
She told him repeatedly to stop filming, but to no avail. The wife walked towards her husband in a bid to take her phone. "But he was fast to grab my hand and slam it against the wall. It got swollen," she recalled in front of the investigator.
A medical report showed that the wife had to get treatment at a hospital and place a cast after she suffered a hand fracture the same day the incident took place - that is November 9 last year.
After the domestic incident, which was reported at Bur Dubai police station, the wife underwent check-ups several times before a final forensic report could be written to evaluate her health condition. The report said that apart from the bruises caused by the assault, the woman was left with a permanent right hand injury.
The public prosecution has appealed the ruling.
