The Dubai Hospital's emergency department is undergoing a major facelift, with the first phase completed recently. It now has 50 fully operational beds and additional rooms, boosting its capacity to handle the thousands of emergency cases it receives every month.
The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has planned out the expansion and renovation based on the need to meet the growing demand for emergency services. According to statistics, the hospital attends to more than 8,000 emergency cases every month.
Besides increasing the number of beds and constructing more emergency and recovery rooms, improvements also included the installation of the latest technologies for ambulance and critical conditions. A fully integrated maternity and paediatric unit was also established.
Renovation work focused on restructuring patient rooms, screening rooms, recovery rooms and cardiac control. To further speed up the team's response time, special entrances were designed: One is for ambulances, while another is for patients who are accompanied by relatives or those who visit the ER on their own.
Humaid Al Qutami, director-general of the DHA, recently visited the hospital to inspect the ongoing work on the ER.
Recognising the crucial moment ERs represent in the lives of patients, the authority is continuously working on developing emergency departments across its hospitals, Al Qutami said.
The main goals, he added, are to speed up services and streamline the patient's journey, all while maintaining internationally recognised safety standards and keeping the patient's privacy in mind.
