The Umm Suqeim office of the Dubai Municipality in Jumeirah is Dubai's chosen location to compete in the Reinventing Cities Challenge for Renovating Urban Projects.
Designers can submit their innovative renovation designs through the challenge website. The submission period for the challenge is until December 31 and the selected design will be announced in 2021.
Organised by the C40 Network of Leading Cities for Climate Change, the competition aims to enhance cities across the world in supporting efforts aimed at renovating buildings and sustainable urban projects free of carbon, and to set new standards for integrated development.
The criteria for submitting designs include: creatively renewing the building with a unique design, the ability to provide various services in sustainable ways, in addition to seeking to reduce carbon emissions to zero per cent, activating various community activities and using the building as a library or museum and not as a hotel.
"The commitment of Dubai to intensify efforts to address the phenomenon of climate change was strengthened by its membership in the 40 Leading Cities Network for Climate Change (C40) years ago. A number of supporting strategies such as the strategy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, adapt to climate change and improve air quality have been adopted by the emirate, " said Abdullah Al Basti, Secretary-General of the Dubai Executive Council and Vice-Chairman of the Steering Committee of the C40 Cities Network for South and West Asia.
