Coronavirus in UAE: Decision on CBSE board exam postponement to be taken today

Dubai/Sharjah - The board's Grade 10 and 12 exams began on February 15 and will end on March 20.

The UAE has asked all schools and colleges to close for four weeks from March 5 as it steps ups its fight against Covid-19. The directive comes as thousands of students across the country are taking their Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examinations. (Coronavirus outbreak: All the latest updates)

A decision over whether or not to go ahead with the ongoing CBSE Grade 10 and 12 examinations will be provided to schools and parents before the end of school working hours today (Wednesday, March 4), Khaleej Times has learnt.

Following discussions with the Ministry of Education, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in Dubai, the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of India in Dubai, a decision will be taken as soon as possible, said Consul General of India to Dubai Vipul.
"The Embassy and the CGI are in talks with the Ministry as well as KHDA. We will be able to give a conclusive answer before the end of school working hours," said Vipul.

The board's Grade 10 exams began on February 15 and will end on March 20. Grade 12 exams started on February 22 and were to go on until March 30. There are two exams scheduled for today and tomorrow.
A paper for Grade 10 examinations (Science) is ongoing as we speak and there is another paper scheduled for tomorrow (Grade 12- Political Science) as well. As of now, this will go ahead as scheduled," added Vipul.
The board examinations for Grade 10 and 12 are held simultaneously for students across all CBSE- curriculum schools throughout the world and approximately three sets of questions papers are equally distributed to students. If exam dates are changed, it would mean CBSE has to draw up a fresh set of question papers just for schools in countries affected by closures arising from the Covid- 19 crisis.
