Dubai's Emirates has suspended its daily flights to Venice and reduce frequency to Milan after all of Italy went under lockdown because of the Covid-19 outbreak.
"In light of the current situation in Italy, we have suspended our daily flight to Venice from March 12 to 31. We have also temporarily reduced the frequency of our daily flights to Milan from three to one," an Emirates spokesperson said in a statement to Khaleej Times.
"This remaining daily flight will continue to operate as EK205/206 from Dubai to Milan, but will not operate onward to New York, as this sector has also been suspended from March 11 until April 3," said the statement.
All of Italy was placed under lockdown as more than 9,000 people have become infected in the European country in little over two weeks, out of a global total of more than 113,000 in over 100 countries.
Nearly 4,000 people have died across the world, the vast majority in mainland China.
The Dubai-based carrier said its services to Rome will be reduced from two flights a day to one until April 30, while services to Bologna remain unchanged.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Affected customers should contact their booking agent or Emirates office to make alternative arrangements. We continue to monitor the situation closely, and look forward to resuming normal operations when feasible," said the spokesperson.
Earlier, British Airways, Jet2 and Ryanair stopped all Italy flights until April. Tunisia announced suspending all flights and shipping to Italy except to Rome.
