A 61-year-old European inmate of African origin has been set free by the Dubai Police due to his medical condition that threatened his life in prison, even after receiving appropriate treatment.

The inmate had been diagnosed with cancer while serving his penal sentence at the Central Prison in Dubai. He has been undergoing treatment, according to the Medical Committee report at the Dubai Health Authority.

Brigadier Ali Mohammed Al Shamali, Director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Institutions at Dubai Police, said that the European inmate was sentenced to 10 years of prison time after he got arrested last year at the airport for possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

The 61-year-old inmate was extremely happy to be back home to continue his treatment with his family members. He also expressed his thanks to the Dubai Police for the care and kind treatment he and other inmates received in prison.
