Students in the UAE stand a chance to win Dh100,000 for creating a 60-second video that highlights the dangers of drug addiction. The police will promote the winning video at international forums, they said.
Organised by the Hemaya centre - a Dubai Police affiliate concerned with raising awareness about multiple issues - and the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Awards (HIPA), the contest is open to students of all nationalities.
Lt-Col Mohammed Khalifa Al Suwaidi, director of community relations department at the general administration for community happiness, said the videos can focus on psychiatric drugs that people are increasingly using. The clips should also focus on the family's role in preventing drug use among their children.
Students can submit their videos on the Hemaya centre website from December 1 to 15. The winning video will be announced in February 2020.
The videos must be submitted by students in the UAE or Emiratis studying abroad.
Colonel Khaled Ali bin Moyeza, deputy director, general directorate of anti-narcotics, said the contest allows students to help the police in combating drug use.
