Sharjah resident Ejaz Umer and his seven-months-pregnant-wife Jasleena still can't believe they sneaked out of the jaws of death by postponing their flight.
Ejaz had booked tickets for his wife on Kozhikode-bound Air India Express flight from Dubai that crash-landed on Friday. However, as Jasleena was unable to secure her medical fitness certificate on time, Ejaz ended up postponing her flight last minute from Friday to Sunday.
"We are shocked and grateful to God for helping us make the right decision. I am shuddering at the fact of what could have happened to my wife, who was to travel alone to Kozhikode on the ill-fated flight. When I was about to make the online payment, my wife told me to postpone the flight ticket date as her doctor was unavailable to give the "fit-for-travel medical fitness certificate". I rebooked the tickets to Sunday and that decision saved her life."
Umer is nervous about his wife travelling to the same airport in Kozhikode but said his faith has helped the couple stay strong. "God is the best planner, therefore, we trust him and move forward. She has to fly out before August 15 so she reaches home well before her delivery due date. I am hoping that after this tragedy, authorities, ground staff, pilots and crew will be more careful and make more sound decisions."
